I've always loved jigsaw puzzles and a few hours spent poring over the mixture of pieces, trying to find order from chaos is always a really relaxing way to spend time. In fact my Mother in Law loves jigsaws and we often have a cup of tea and a chat while sitting over her current puzzle. It's been a while since I had my own jigsaw to puzzle over so when the opportunity arose to review one of the new Happy Days puzzles from Ravensburger I was keen.

The Happy Days puzzles feature nostalgic scenes of some well loved english destinations, including Sidmouth, York and London. I received the 1000 piece Lake District puzzle which features a view of Coniston, in the 1970s. Coniston is a favourite spot for our family so it was fun to get a retro perspective on the village.

First impressions on opening the box were 'wow, what a lot of pieces!' I've mainly helped with 500 piece puzzles lately so doubling up to 1000 was a big step up. Each piece is slightly larger than a penny coin and very thick. As soon as I started to assemble the puzzle I found it really easy to place matching pieces together and they combined well. The printing on to the puzzle is bright and colourful.

The picture makes for an interesting and engaging puzzle to solve. There aren't vast swathes of any one colour so it is easy to complete it bit by bit and you don't get bogged down with vast areas of sky or sea like on some. It is really fun to see the picture grow and I'm really enjoying the challenge of the puzzle. I haven't completed it yet and I need to buy a Puzzle Mate so I can put this away out of reach of small hands but I've found the jigsaw a great way to relax and unwind away from the laptop screen. It's good to see that the box is really sturdy, I'd' have no concerns about losing pieces through the flimsy cardboard of jigsaws past, the lid is very snug.

The Ravensburger Happy Days 1000 piece puzzles have an RRP of £11:99 which I think is excellent value for money for the hours of entertainment and relaxation provided. They can be purchased at Amazon and all good retailers.

Disclosure: We received the jigsaw for review purposes.
