Red Rose Mummy Christmas

As the parent of a baby or toddler it can sometimes feel like an uphill battle to find toys away from the usual ranges. I've always enjoyed choosing toys for my children that stimulate all of their senses, and encourage a range of skills, from as early an age as possible. I think that the toys offered by Little Bird Told Me completely fit the bill.

We received a Curious Caterpillar Activity Pull Along from their range of Baby Soft Toys for Little Miss to review. Curious Caterpillar sits inside an apple-shaped pull along vehicle which is made from fabric, with wooden wheels. When you remove the caterpillar from his apple you can play with him on his own and he features a squeaker, crinkly fabric and a jingling chime. The toy measures 25x20x15cm and is suitable from six months and above. He features a flower mirror and can be pulled around using a detachable cord. The whole toy is plush fabric, apart from the wheels which are made of wood and attached by a velcro axle. Each toy arrives beautifully packaged in a cardboard box (which can recycled) and, altogether, it looks like a beautiful gift.

Little Miss was really taken with Curious Caterpillar straight away. She quickly realised she could remove the caterpillar from his apple and spent a good amount of time trying to put him back in again, something she couldn't do when we first received him but she can now, a few weeks later. On removing him she spent time exploring the caterpillar, shaking him to make him jingle, and investigating all of the different attachments he has. She especially liked the cord that pulls him and the flower mirror. We've never been able to use Curious Caterpillar as a pull along as Little Miss still isn't walking independently, when I tried to use this feature I found that the wheels didn't spin freely like a more traditional wheeled toy but you can pull the toy along without the wheels moving. That might be because we have laminate flooring or a coarse rug in our lounge. The wheels may well rotate if played with on carpet. The wheel axles are easy to remove, by detaching the velcro. Little Miss loves opening velcro so one of her favourite games with this toy has been to open it up, wait for me to close it then repeat as long as I keep playing.

Both Little Miss and I have enjoyed this toy very much. She loves exploring the different features and I enjoy seeing her playing with a non-plastic toy which I know is safe and stimulating for her, and one that she can learn through playing with. Priced at £18 I think it would make a wonderful gift for a child aged between six and eighteen months. Little Miss is currently fifteen months and still enjoys playing with the caterpillar.
